The Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education (B.S.Ed.) in Counseling and Student Services (CASS) degree is for students interested in mental health, higher education, and student affairs-related careers. Courses emphasize knowledge in learning, human development, and interpersonal communication through a combination of theory and practical real-life experience. This major is interdisciplinary and focuses on the fields of education, counseling, psychology, and student affairs. Students pursuing the Counseling and Student Services major will choose between two program tracks:
• Counseling Psychology
• Higher Education & Student Affairs.
This degree provides students with both direct and indirect professional paths to mental health and student-oriented work fields. CASS graduates are suited for direct paths to entry-level jobs in Community and Social Service Occupations, as well as indirect paths that prepare students to apply for graduate study in mental health and helping fields (e.g., counseling psychology, social work, student affairs work).
