A Bachelor of Science in Recreation (B.S.R) Recreational Therapy degree prepares students to assume positions as recreational therapists. All graduates are eligible to sit for the National Council on Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) examination. The Recreational Therapy program is accredited through the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education (CAAHEP) and the Committee on Accreditation of Recreational Therapy Education (CARTE).
Recreational therapists enrich the lives of others by helping them maintain physical, mental, and emotional well-being using interventions including arts and crafts, animals, sports, games, dance and movement, drama, and music. In this major, you will develop the knowledge and skills to assist people of all ages with illnesses or disabilities to function well in their daily activities. You will learn to assess individual needs, and then to plan, implement, and evaluate specific interventions. The coursework for this degree will include psychology, anatomy, and health classes.
