A Bachelor of Science degree in Recreation (B.S.R.) with the Tourism, Hospitality, and Event Management (THEM) major prepares students to become leaders in the world’s largest, most diverse industry—tourism. Students will learn about the marketing and management of tourist facilities and destinations, with an emphasis on sustainable practices. Coursework will also involve learning the fundamentals of managing tourism venues, lodging, services, and events.
All undergraduate students in this major must enroll in the Full-Semester Professional Internship course wherein students gain real-world experience in their field while advancing in their degree. Internships abroad are an option. Graduates work in a broad range of settings, including sales, food & beverage management, hotel management and sales, catering, merchandising, business development, marketing, brand management, revenue management, and well-being management.
