0:00
hey guys welcome to another video and
0:01
i'm back here today talking to you about
0:04
the top five jobs for international
0:06
students to do while they are studying
0:08
overseas now this can apply to most
0:11
countries but particularly if you're
0:12
going to the united states you already
0:14
know the rules are strict and i'm gonna
0:16
be talking to you about that how much
0:18
time can you work part time full time
0:20
what can you do when can you do that
0:22
we're gonna go over all that and not
0:24
only from a financial perspective but
0:26
also from perspective of you know in the
0:28
long term i really like to think long
0:29
term here in the long term
0:31
which positions would really help you
0:33
out that's really the goal and that's
0:35
what we're going to be discussing in
0:36
this video the main reason that i want
0:38
to actually give you the caveats first
0:40
is that most people don't really know
0:41
about these and they just dive into the
0:43
jobs the top five jobs yes we'll go over
0:45
those but there are some caveats if you
0:47
are actually studying in the us so the
0:49
first one is
0:50
if you are going to the us right now
0:52
right you will only be able to work part
0:54
time for the first year of your
0:56
education that means you can only work
0:58
20 hours per week now this is applicable
1:00
only for the first year from the second
1:02
year you can actually start using your
1:04
cpt that's your curricular practical
1:06
training which of course is basically
1:08
you get grades for basically working and
1:11
for that you can actually work 20 hours
1:12
per week in part time and when you're in
1:15
vacations you know holidays you can
1:17
actually go ahead and work 40 hours per
1:19
week that's full time but the worst of
1:21
all the main caveat that most people
1:23
don't even talk about is that if you
1:25
exhaust your cpt you most people would
1:27
get around
1:28
some amount of hours 12 months of cpt
1:31
right some amount of hours you can do if
1:32
you exhaust that if you exhaust all of
1:35
your cpt what happens is you're not
1:37
eligible for the opt and the opt is
1:39
basically what you use to stay in the us
1:42
after you're finished with your degree
1:43
after you finish you want to get your
1:45
return on investment you actually work
1:46
in a company for one to three years
1:48
depending on whether you're stem
1:49
graduate or not
1:50
i've talked about that
1:52
separate videos but again the main
1:54
important thing is never exhaust your
1:55
cpd leave at least a couple of days on
1:57
it so now that you know these caveats
1:59
let's actually go on and talk about the
2:01
top five jobs i'll also give reasons for
2:03
each and every job why i recommend this
2:05
one okay i've actually classified these
2:07
based on who you are which semester
2:09
you're in or which year you are in so if
2:11
you're in the first semester what i
First semester
2:13
would recommend
2:14
is literally go early and try to get any
2:18
literally any job you can
2:20
for the first semester at least don't
2:21
think about hey i want a ta or re only
2:24
etc etc just get any job you can get my
2:27
personal recommendations would be to go
2:29
ahead get something in sales if possible
2:31
because no matter who you are what
2:32
you're doing sales is always something
2:34
that helps you in a way
2:36
okay so usually they are well paid there
2:38
are some of the top-notch salaries
2:40
especially you know at the on-campus
2:42
level that you're going to be working
2:43
and on top of that they give you a skill
2:45
that you can actually utilize in life
2:47
later on you can work in the tuition
2:49
reception department you can take a look
2:51
over there go to their department and
2:53
talk about them whether you know they
2:54
have something over there for you you
2:56
know you can also work in the id card
2:58
department identification and onboarding
3:00
department okay some new students came
3:01
into the school now we have to build the
3:03
id cards etc etc i know that a lot of
3:05
immigrants go over there and they get
3:06
work nothing else works no problem go
3:09
ahead to the starbucks go ahead to
3:10
whatever cafe you find the food join
3:12
just wait tables for the first semester
3:15
basically get whatever you can don't
3:17
really think about oh i want this i want
3:19
that just get something for the first
3:21
semester be prepared be protected and
3:23
just fetch a job from the second
Second semester
3:25
semester now still second semester is
3:27
still the first year you're still in
3:28
college you are still not eligible for
3:30
the cpt you will still be working on
3:33
campus what i recommend at this point of
3:35
time from the second semester and really
3:37
when i say from the second semester you
3:38
have to actually start before you start
3:40
searching before the second semester
3:41
starts right and the positions i really
3:44
want you to push for our teaching
3:46
assistantship graduate assistantship
3:48
research assistantships i've explained
3:50
what these are in a separate video i'm
3:52
not going to go over that but these are
3:54
basically positions which help you not
3:56
only if you are you know going for the
3:58
industry industry-based jobs later on
4:00
but also if you are going for let's say
4:02
phds etc etc these will actually hold a
4:05
lot of significance so try to get one of
4:07
these positions third point third kind
4:09
of best jobs which i would say for
4:11
international students and this is also
4:12
for the second semester let's say if
4:14
you're not able to fetch one of these
4:15
three then you try to get the on-campus
4:17
jobs which are actually related to your
4:19
field of study for instance let's say
4:21
that okay you are someone who's in
4:22
mechanical engineering go ahead take a
4:24
look at the baja society you know
4:26
whatever they're doing or if you're from
4:27
cs go ahead take a look at you know
4:29
whatever kind of computing you know
4:31
basically jobs are available okay
4:33
software engineering jobs etc etc right
4:35
if you're from mba try to get a job
4:37
where you can manage at least two or
4:38
three people
4:40
try to get something related to your
4:41
field so you can actually build on top
4:43
of your curriculum that you're studying
4:45
in college and all of this can happen on
4:47
campus not only does this help you in
4:49
getting relevant experience related to
4:51
your field of study but you actually are
4:53
getting us-based experience which means
4:56
that employers will actually prefer you
4:58
because you already have some experience
5:00
working in the united states and trust
5:02
me they usually would not even care
5:03
about your experience working in
5:04
different countries yes for certain
5:06
degrees you have to have two to five
5:08
years of work experience but again
5:10
having that us work experience it's
5:11
actually going to count a lot now for
5:14
the fourth and fifth best types of jobs
5:16
i'm gonna be coming on to the second
Second year
5:17
year so from the second year and forward
5:19
you know second third fourth year
5:20
however long your degree is right now at
5:22
this point of time you can try and again
5:24
number four i'm gonna still go with
5:26
t-a-r-a-g-a jobs that's teaching
5:28
assistantship research assistantship and
5:30
graduate assistantship jobs now
5:32
why are they important i've already
5:34
explained that they're well paid they're
5:36
on campus you'll have to do a lot of
5:37
traveling and if you're going for a phd
5:40
especially you should go for these and
5:41
these only because they will really
5:43
really help boost your profile but my
5:46
best choice over here for the second
5:47
year would be really the best kind of
5:49
job second year and forward you know
5:51
moving forward with these cpt-based jobs
5:53
where you actually have to get approval
5:54
etc etc and these jobs are mostly off
5:58
campus so my advice is to work in the
6:00
top most companies of your field again
6:02
this is you know whether you can get it
6:04
or not that's completely different but
6:06
you know try to go for these if not the
6:08
top companies go with some startup but
6:10
off-campus employment with some startups
6:12
or with some companies that are very
6:14
well established in your field right
6:16
again in your field that's the important
6:18
keyword over here you can't manage to
6:20
waste time at this point you can't
6:21
manage to get anything that is not
6:22
related to your field because again
6:24
you're looking for a job at the end of
6:25
this and the good part is that many of
6:27
these positions would come with a ppo
6:29
that's a free placement offer before you
6:31
are actually graduated they will
6:32
basically give you a full-time offer and
6:34
these are actually the best kind of jobs
6:36
if you're interested in working in the
6:37
us after your degree and in fact even if
6:39
you want to do a phd or something like
6:41
that you can actually go on and apply to
6:43
something like google brain right you
6:45
can apply to microsoft research et
6:47
cetera et cetera so you can really still
6:48
go into the industry and these would be
6:50
the best kind of jobs you're eligible
6:52
from the second year moving forward but
6:53
again remember do not exhaust your cpt
6:56
because again you'll be using your cpt
6:58
to actually work these jobs make sure
6:59
that your employer your dso both of them
7:02
know exactly how long you can work and
7:05
that you know if your employer is
7:06
pushing you should basically tell them
7:07
on the first go itself that look i have
7:09
these many hours with me i cannot work
7:11
more than this much because otherwise i
7:12
would exhaust my cpd and things just
7:14
would not work for me all right so again
7:17
i hope that this video helps these are
7:19
the best top five positions i would say
7:21
you know based on which semester you're
7:22
in i've tried to classify them so that
7:24
no matter who you are you can relate to
7:26
this and again you have if you have some
7:28
comments you have some recommendations
7:29
for the people watching this please
7:30
comment down below and i hope to see you
7:32
in the next one goodbye and take care
7:34
for now
