The Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Cinematic Arts is a competitive program within the College of Arts and Sciences under the Media School. It requires applicants to apply in the spring of their sophomore year to be considered for admission into the program for their last two years of study.
This degree program is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in all elements of cinematic production. In this major, students will work with various forms of narrative film, television production, and documentary production. Students receive hands-on training in contemporary industry practices. Additionally, students will study visual theory, cinema history, global trends, and distribution networks with the goal of developing their own unique voice and style in the field of cinema.
As part of the major, students will take ownership of writing, directing, shooting, editing, post-producing, and distributing their own short film, giving a deep understanding of storytelling, film aesthetics, and professional-level equipment and technology (BFA Cinema Thesis).
