A Bachelor of Arts degree in Classical Studies (Latin and Greek) allows students to explore the world of the ancient Greeks and Romans through an interdisciplinary study of literature, art, and history. In learning these languages, students can deepen their understanding of contemporary social, political, and aesthetic issues. Proficiency in Latin and Greek can also give students access to medical terminology used in health professions.
Students will learn to read Latin and Greek at the beginning of their coursework. In the intermediate and advanced courses of this major, students will have the opportunity to study with faculty whose research focuses on Roman and Greek writers, philosophers, art, law, society, and more.
This major is a good fit for students who are interested in exploring languages and cultures of the ancient world, hope to study abroad or travel, and/or have an interest in cultural opportunities like art museums, theatre, opera, and ballet.
