A Bachelor of Science in Public Health (B.S.P.H.) Fitness and Wellness degree focuses on the applied science of movement and research-based preparation of a health and fitness professional. Graduates of this program become qualified to seek certification as an Exercise Physiologist from National Commission of Certifying Agencies (NCCA) accredited organizations such as the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM).
The curriculum is based on guidelines and standards developed by the ACSM and delivers a scientific academic foundation in topics such as physiology, functional kinesiology, biomechanics, motor learning, and epidemiology. This knowledge is combined with the latest research and training methods as well as a variety of community engagement experiences that promote active and healthy lifestyles impacting the health of the public at large.
This degree will allow students to practice important skills such as posture and movement analysis, communication and coaching strategies, and exercise prescription and leadership. Students will also participate in a required professional field experience and will have numerous opportunities to work at on-and off-campus sites to gain even more hands-on knowledge.
