The Department of Germanic Studies offers a rich curriculum including German, Dutch, Norwegian, and Yiddish languages and the associated literatures and cultures. Students study German for various enriching reasons, such as expanding their knowledge of Germany, its people, culture, and to acquire a new perspective on their own society and culture. Earning a degree in German can also provide students with language essential for research in another academic field or helpful as a secondary qualification for internationally oriented careers.
Indiana University offers excellent opportunities to study abroad for an academic year in Freiburg, Germany, a semester in Berlin, Germany or Vienna, Austria, or in the summer in Graz, Austria, or in Berlin, Germany.
