A Bachelor of Arts degree in Classical Civilization is a flexible major that allows students with little or no knowledge of Greek or Latin languages to explore aspects of ancient Greek and Roman cultures. Students can also learn more about the origins of Western traditions in literature, art, law, medicine, and intellectual life.
This degree allows students to take courses in Greek and Latin, or they may opt to choose courses that present materials in English.
Classical Civilization majors choose one of two tracks:
Coursework for both tracks includes lots of flexibility within this discipline, where students can explore several course topics of their choosing from Roman Law to classical drama to culture in film and more.
This major is a good fit for students who are interested in exploring languages and cultures of the ancient world, hope to study abroad or travel, and/or have an interest in cultural opportunities like art museums, theatre, opera, and ballet.
